UNF Health Administration
Partners with China
Faculty from UNF's Brooks College of Health's Health
Administration Program are partnering with Chinese
officials to help with China's transition to a market-driven
health care system. D. Rob Haley PhD, JoAnn NolinJD,
Mei Zhao PhD, Kerry Dunning MSH, CPAR, and students
from the Brooks College of Health recently traveled
to China's Center for Health Management and Policy (CHMP)
at Shandong University to meet with government, healthcare
and University officials. The goal was to explore collaborative
scholarly opportunities. UNF faculty presented on the
US healthcare system and identified potential healthcare
models that can be used to manage the cost and quality
of care in China.
In March 2007, UNF's Health Administration Program
with support from UNF's International Center's Co-Curricular
Grant hosted Dr. Qiang Sun, MD, MPH. Dr. Sun is a Research
Fellow at Harvard University's School of Public Health
and is a faculty member with China's CHMP. Dr. Sun spoke
to over 150 UNF students and faculty on the current
state of the Chinese healthcare system.

Plans are underway to further collaborate with China's
CHMP. We are jointly working with Dr Sun and China's
CHMP on primary research to identify the prevalence
of Western Medicine and Traditional Chinese medicine
for China's rehabilitation services. We are also exploring
research to pilot a health delivery model for rural
citizens of China. In November 2007, UNF faculty will
travel to Shandong University to conduct the first of
a series of Healthcare Summits on strengthening the
Chinese Healthcare System. The focus of this Summit
is "Building a Foundation for a Viable and Sustainable
Chinese Healthcare System." We are currently identifying
opportunities to involve UNF health administration students
to travel to China and participate and present at future
healthcare summits. Please contact Mei Zhao PhD at (904)
