I chose UNF's MHA program because of the large and extensive healthcare community throughout Jacksonville. From for-profit and not-for-profit hospitals to insurance companies and managed care organizations, the University of North Florida partners with and embraces these various healthcare organizations in order to enhance the student's experience while in the program.
I hope to come away with a better understanding of the challenges and changes that are facing the healthcare industry. Although I am not from a traditional healthcare background, I expect to be prepared and equipped with the proper knowledge and skill sets that will allow me to add value to an organization upon graduating.
This degree will provide me with the knowledge and skills that employers look for in the ever-changing field of healthcare. However, the credential alone is not enough. UNF differentiates itself by holding their students to a high standard, both in the classroom and in the community. That is why I feel confident that a UNF MHA will help me to advance towards becoming a healthcare leader.
UNF is a relatively young school with an up-and-coming MHA program. Our cohort groups are close-knit and diverse, which provides something for everyone. Our faculty members come from some of the top MHA programs (VCU and UNC) in the country. I believe that if you are looking to get in on the ground-floor of what will soon become a prominent name in the field of health administration, then UNF is the place to be. |

Healthcare is changing so much and I wanted to learn tools that can keep me on the edge of technology and best practices. While most management positions require a masters degree, I wanted the specialization of a MHA verses a MBA.
I also wanted to see how my experiences in the “real world” compared to what is being taught today. I have found my experience has been helpful and appreciated in class to give a different point of view or to affirm the views of the lecture. And I have also gained a lot from the different experiences and point of views of my fellow classmates.
After you finish the program you will be amazed at how much information and new skills you learned in your two or three years at UNF. You will meet some of the most intelligent, insightful, and fun students in graduate school today. I believe the student organizations and the personal connections UNF has made in the community will help you find new opportunities in the future. |

"I have worked as a hospital administrator for the past 13 years but did not have a Master's degree. To be eligible for any future advancement within HCA, I knew I had to get my Masters. It was important to me that I get a degree from an accredited university with an accredited MHA program.
I have been very impressed with the curriculum here at UNF. It touches upon most of the key elements in healthcare operations and provides several resources to help MHA graduates secure jobs post-graduation. The fact that many of the professors are working professionals within healthcare organizations here in Jacksonville allows students a great opportunity to network.
If people are serious about getting an advanced degree, the quality of that degree should be a factor in where they ultimately enroll. “ |

"Being in a Naval Officer Training program we are required to attend a program that has been fully accredited. From the many MHA programs offered around the country, I was happy to see that UNF’s program met the needs of the Navy and that Jacksonville offers so many resources for military personnel due to the abundance of military facilities in the area.
I believe that my time here at UNF has allowed me to generate a wealth of knowledge that is top notch. My fellow students as well as the instructors are always willing to help and I am sure that we will be there for each other in the future. With the knowledge that has been gained here at UNF I feel comfortable in working in many aspects of Healthcare administration. Obtaining my MHA degree from UNF will allow me many opportunities as I continue on my career. Not only will it offer me greater leadership opportunities and advancement while I continue my Navy career but it will continue to offer me opportunities when I make the transition into civilian life." |

”The education system here at UNF brings out not only the best in you, but also provides the resources for an individual to be a well rounded person when he or she finishes their education.
Though the education system in India is well known to be academically sound around the world, what it lacks is the attention to detail and the support UNF provides in terms of advising, career counseling, and mentoring.
My experience here at UNF has benefitted me not just academically but has opened me to several avenues on a personal level. The MHA program at UNF allows one to take advantage of an extremely supportive academic faculty, an equally supportive student body and not to mention, state of the art facilities.” |

I have held on to my belief that healthcare is being run as if it is a business by businessmen. The problem is these businessmen have no healthcare background so there is a disconnect or even an inability of these leaders to understand the true value added from many of the services provided, outside of the financial component.
I hope to possess the skill of the astute businessman and pair it with my skill as a healthcare professional to produce a highly sought senior healthcare executive. The MHA program at UNF has imparted in me the skills necessary to create the balance needed from the healthcare and the business side of this profession for me to become a successful leader in one of the local healthcare facilities in the city of Jacksonville.
This program offers the opportunity for individual growth and development. I have met some great people and I can truly say I believe this program has much to offer the up and coming future healthcare executives. I recommend current and future students use the skills and knowledge obtained to achieve new heights in their chosen profession. |
